Sharon Sue Denk

Sharon Sue Denk (nee Ehresman), aged 77, passed into glory after a battle with cancer on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Sharon was born in Omaha, NE, to Wesley and Mary Helen Ehresman. She was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ, her Savior and Lord. She graduated from Benson High School in Omaha. As a teenager, she won spelling bees and awards for sewing. She later attended Grace Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she met Daniel Denk, who became her husband of 56+ years. Sharon had a curious spirit and was interested in almost everything, including the arts, music, God's creation, sciences, holistic health, Mac computers, and educational philosophy and practice. She was a voracious reader through most of her life. She was a pioneer in homeschooling her four children (before it was popular) using an eclectic curriculum and drawing on her library of 4,000+ books. She was a theology enthusiast (even writing booklets on Romans and a biblical view of gossip). Sharon had many friends from around the world and hosted and assisted immigrants in practical ways. She loved to give things to others that she found in her thrift store forays. Along with her husband, Dan, she ministered to university students in the US, England, and Eastern Europe and in camp ministry. She and Dan have been an active part of Christ Church, Grand Rapids, since 1977.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother David, and her sister Charlotte.  She is survived by her husband Dan; sister Joy (& David); sister-in-law Nancy; children Ramona (& Thomas), Carmen (& Chris), Allison (& Alex), and Ransom (& CarrieAnne); grandchildren Elizabeth, Christina, Julia, Abel, and Aurelia; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Sharon's presence in our lives will be greatly missed, and we will remember her with love and appreciation.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 4:00 PM, visitation at 3:00 PM, at Christ Church PCA, 2500 Breton Rd, SE Grand Rapids, MI.
