Nadine Grace (McCall) Godfrey

Nadine Grace Godfrey of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully at Medilodge of Grand
Rapids with the assistance of Interim Hospice on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. She
was born to William Clare and Ethel McCall on September 25, 1938, in Grand Rapids,
Michigan. She and her five siblings were raised by her mother when her father tragically
died when she was just six years old.
 
Nadine was always a caretaker whether as a nurse’s aide at Villa Elizabeth or
Greenview Manor, the cook at Happy Elephant Day Care, or in her own at home
childcare. She also invited anyone in need of a meal or even a place to stay.
 
Nadine was married twice, her second marriage to William “Bill” Godfrey on November
15, 1973, blended his three kids with her three kids and then together they added one
more. Making for lots of chaos, fun and sometimes confusion with people trying to figure
out why and how she had two daughters named Melissa only eight months apart.
 
Nadine always invoked in her children the importance of volunteering. She and her
husband Bill spent time helping numerous organizations including Northeast
Neighborhood Association, The Girls and Boy Scouts and The Sparta Senior
Neighbors.
 
Nadine was a loving mother and a proud grandmother, great grandmother and even a
great, great grandmother. She was always bragging to anyone willing to listen about
where this one was working or that one went to school.
 
Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Godfrey, her daughter Melissa
Godfrey, her son Steve Godfrey, and son-in-law Chuck Prill, her granddaughters
Michelle Godfrey, Lauryn Godfrey, and Alicia Godfrey Johnson. She is survived by her
son Stan “Ed” (Rhonda) Maneke, daughter Monica Prill, son Bill (Cindy) Godfrey,
daughter Melissa “Missy” (Mike) Golden, daughter Yvonne (Pat) Lake, as well as 24
grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.
 
The family would like to thank Medilodge of Grand Rapids, especially Willie, also
Kyndra and Claire of Interim Hospice for their care and compassion during this journey.
 
There will be a celebration picnic of Nadine’s life at McCarthy Park in Greenville on
October 8, 2023, from 1-4 p.m.
