Maria (Mary) Margaretha Runner (Hollander), age 67, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2016. Although she struggled with diabetes throughout her life, she took delight in her Savior, Jesus Christ, and looked to him for wisdom, comfort, and peace. Those who knew Mary well would describe her as a tender, compassionate, and loving person who put others before herself even if it resulted in her own personal pain or loss. Throughout her life she has been a testimony to many, showing her strong faith to those around her by standing firm in the midst of many trials. Mary was born on May 31, 1949 in Leek, Groningen, in the Netherlands. Her family moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan a few years later. On April 27, 1974, she was married to Evan. Mary's joy was caring for her family and raising her children. It was always her desire to point them to their Savior, Jesus Christ. Mary also loved spending time with her grandchildren Devan, Aidan, Brynn, Brianna, Kyla, Olivia, Sydney, and Lauren. Mary is survived by her husband, Evan Runner; sons Phillip (& Stacy) Runner, Steve (& Sara) Runner; eight grandchildren; brothers Ralph (& Carol) Hollander, Bob (& Carol) Hollander, sister Maggie (Florence) Quinn, and sisters-in-law Jocelyn (& Scott) Leasure and Cathy Collins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Tena Hollander and two infant siblings. A Christian funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 27 at 11:00 AM at the Raybrook Manor Chapel located at 2121 Raybrook SE in Grand Rapids with Rev. Mitchell Dick presiding. Visitation will take place before the service from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at the Chapel. A burial service will take place at 2:30 PM at Greenwood Cemetery, 1401 Leonard St NW in Grand Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Pella Christian Grade School and Zion Christian School.
