John Howard Doughty, born April 11, 1942, was the eldest of 7 children born to William E. and Eleanor Rea Doughty. He passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
John spent many years as a funeral director and later as a contractor. Throughout his life, he had many interests and hobbies including his ham radio club, collecting sports memorabilia, and clocks. John and his beloved Darlein spent countless hours enjoying the wildlife on their peaceful property in Caledonia.
A lifelong resident of Michigan, John will be remembered for his striking blue eyes, his beautiful smile, his terrific sense of humor, and his special devotion to his mother, who lived to be 97.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Darlein; son, John J. Doughty; stepson, Russell Anderson; grandson, Dennis Anderson Jr.; and siblings: William E. Doughty Jr., Nancy Smith, and Bette Retter.
John was well-loved and will be missed by his daughters: Christine (Andre) Marte, Cynthia (Larry) Ross, and Carla (Dave) Goron; stepson, Dennis (Becki) Anderson; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Frank (Teri) Doughty, Debra (Mike) Sytsma, and Patricia (Jon) Jasinski; as well as many nieces and nephews.
