Obituary

Glady Devlaeminck, age 87, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Maria Dedieu, and husband, Donald Devlaeminck.  She is survived by her sons, Rudy (Rachael) Pou and Robert Burrows (Maria Calderon). Grandchildren: Maranda (Kris) Stott, Clautia Pou, Shayla Pou, Monique Pou, Beyala Pou, Alisia Pou, Niya Pou, Diana Sucedo (Tyree St Clair), Graciela Saucedo, Ramon Saucedo, Andrew Sayles, Victor Trujillo, and Darian Ross. She was also a great grandmother to 7.

Glady lived a full warm life, filled with happiness and kindness.  She grew up in Cuba and moved to Grand Rapids in 1967.  Glady worked for Union Bank, retiring from what is now Chase Bank, after 30+ years.  After she retired, she became an interpreter for Catholic Human Services, where she helped refugees get established in the United States.  She was very committed to helping others, and would often help refugees with rides and services outside her job, on many occasions even buying food, clothing, and supplies for them with her own money.  Eventually, she went on to work as an interpreter in the medical field, where she remained until she was no longer able to do so due to her health in 2021.

She would do anything for her family and friends.  She loved to cook pots of picadillo with black beans and rice for her family whom she loved very much.  She made everyone she knew laugh and cry at all of the stories she shared.  Glady loved animals and regularly donated to ASPCA.  She loved her dogs, wine warm summer days, and enjoyed eating at overpriced restaurants.  She loved her guns and her time spent at the gun range.  She had a colorful sense of humor, and will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who loved her.  A celebration of life will be planned for some time in June, but no date has been set yet.
