Eleanor Nowack Obituary

Eleanor Irene Nowack, age 96, died peacefully of natural causes on May
11, 2023. She was born Eleanor Irene Frederiksen in Pontiac, MI on
October 7, 1926. A child of the Great Depression, she learned to value
every cent she ever made and invest it wisely. She was bright, sarcastic,
thrifty, loving, stalwart and proud. Her diligence was unparalleled.
Indeed, there is not much left for us to do but mourn her passing. And
we will, heartily. So, if you find yourself staring down a glass of Robert
Mondavi Woodbridge Chardonnay, raise it high to Eleanor, so she may
sip it from wherever she currently resides. She liked westerns,
particularly Wagon Train, Twix ice cream bars, Jimmy Dean Breakfast
roll ups, Doris Day’s Que Sera Sera, winter, salmon, every cat who ever
lived and, of course, “my wine”. Eleanor will be remembered as
someone who revered her independence, in that respect she was
ahead of her time. She made her career as a supervisor at Michigan
Bell, but after taking early retirement, she thrived as a volunteer for
The Plainfield Branch of the Kent District Public Library, and for Tax Aid,
where she worked well into her nineties, helping other senior citizens
prepare their taxes. She is survived by her only child, son Martin Zyla,
and daughter-in-law Francine Paolini. She was preceded in death by her
three younger brothers, Gene Frederiksen, John (Jack) Frederiksen and
Ronald Frederiksen, as well as her beloved husband, Robert (Bob)
Allerton Nowack. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews who
revered her as the matriarch of the family. If you wish to honor her
memory, you can send a donation to either Crash’s Landing Cat Rescue
at 3433 River Hill Dr., Grand Rapids, MI 49534, or St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
