Bette Retter Obituary

Bette Kay Retter 4/2/46 - 7/16/16 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed to be with the Lord on July 16, 2016. Upon graduating from South High School in 1964, Bette met, feel in love with, and married the love of her life, David Melvin Retter. Soon after she opened her dance school, Miss Sonja's Center For Performing Arts, which changed names to Retter's Dance Center. This business brought 30 years of quality dance instruction to the Greater Grand Rapids area. Through her dance studio she touched the lives of many families in the community. In her retirement years she could be found making everyone smile at Van Andel Arena in the concession stand area with her beloved co-workers of 18 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, her father, William E. Doughty Sr., son, Michael Jon and brother William E. Doughty Jr. Surviving are mother, Eleanor, brothers John (Darlene) and Frank (Teri), sisters Nancy (Ron), Debbie (Mike) and Patti (Jon). Sons, David (Tamera) of Gaylord, Darryl Marc (Linda) of Los Angeles, and Thommie (Becca) of New York, and daughter, Sonja (Jim) of Grand Rapids. Also survived by grandsons, JP (Kylee), Kaleb, and David Michael; granddaughters, Winkee, Renata, Liza and Bella. A brother-in-law, Kenneth in Florida, many nephews and nieces. Also, special friends The Bryant Family, The Jeske Family, The Nicola Family, The Stone Family and The VanOpstall Family. Visitation Tuesday, July 19, 11:00-2:00 and 5:00-8:00, Ofield Funeral Home located at 4500 Kalamazoo Ave. Funeral Service Wednesday, July 20, 11:00 AM at Kentwood Christian Church located at 5841 Kalamazoo Ave, Bishop Garth Aamodt, officiating.
