Obituary

Zita Vigh, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and daughter, peacefully went to her eternal home in heaven with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 28, 2025, after bravely battling warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia (wAIHA) for eight months. Her loving children and family surrounded her in her final weeks and cared for her alongside her dedicated Faith Hospice nurse, Allison, and the compassionate hospice team.

Born in Kormend, Hungary, Zita's early life was profoundly shaped by the tumultuous events of World War II, the struggles of oppression, and the enduring strength of family. She cherished her early years in Mateszalka, filled with both joy and the innocence of childhood, despite facing the chaos of war that forced her family apart. It was in her early teens that Zita accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. Her steadfast faith and remarkable tenacity shone brightly as she navigated the challenges of her youth, culminating in her courageous escape from Hungary during the 1956 revolution.

In 1958, Zita married Julius, whom she met shortly after arriving in the United States and who served as her family's interpreter. Together, they built a loving family and shared a deep devotion to their faith. As a pastor's wife, Zita faithfully supported Julius in his ministry as he pastored several churches over the years. Their marriage was marked by love, service, and steadfast faith, lasting 64 years until Julius's passing on November 30, 2022.

Zita's heart was reflected in her nurturing spirit. She was known for her ability to whip up exquisite Hungarian meals and pastries, lovingly prepared for family gatherings, making every occasion truly special. Her kindness and compassion extended beyond her family; she was recognized with the "Caring Spirit of the Year" award from Porter Hills Retirement Village for her dedicated service, having spent 25 years in the assisted living wing before retiring at the age of 75.

Zita profoundly touched the lives of many with her gentle spirit and loving nature, embodying grace and resilience through her steadfast faith. Her life was a testament to God's grace and Christ's love, leaving an indelible mark on her children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She has created a lasting legacy of love and compassion that inspires all who have had the privilege of knowing her.

Zita Vigh will be remembered as a matriarch and an extraordinary example of unwavering faith, humility, kindness, and strength. In celebrating her memory, we honor the remarkable life she lived and the cherished place she holds in our hearts.

Zita was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Julius, her parents, Geza and Matilda Gyene, and her sisters, Babi Poor and Kathy Baarman. Zita will be lovingly remembered by her children, Susan (Bret) Kincaid, Sandi (Jeff) Ashton, Ronald (Jacqueline) Vigh, Barb Vigh, Lorna (Matt) Mulder; 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and sister, Elizabeth Holwerda.
