May 31, 2011 Service: June 6, 2011 Winona Ann "Toddy" Johnston, born February 26, 1927, in Grand Rapids, died May 30, 2011, at Pilgrim Manor in Grand Rapids, and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all those who were privileged to know her. Toddy was preceded in death by her parents, Lester L. and Lila P. (Babbitt) Kimmel, loving husband, Dr. G. Richard Johnston, brother Raymond Kimmel, sister-in-law Marilyn Kimmel and her life-long best friends, Dorothy Erickson and Mary Ellen Wortman. She is survived by her siblings Berta (Roger) Dykhuis, Maurice Kimmel and Susan (Jack) Lake; children Dr. Kim A. (Joni) Johnston, Dick (Motu) Johnston, Kevin (Karen) Johnston and Amy (Jim) Rains; her grandchildren Andrew (Claire) Johnston, Holly (Kevin) Dennings, Robert Johnston and friend Elin Edwald, Selina Johnston and her fiancé (Cam Brieden), Joseph Johnston, James, Alexandra and Madison Rains, along with many nieces and nephews. A life-long active member of First (Park) Congregational Church, Toddy was a member of Arnold Ten, Women's Fellowship (past president), Stephen Ministries leader and altar committee. A long-time resident of Silver Lake in Rockford, Toddy enjoyed golf, tennis and duplicate bridge and was a decades-long member of a special bridge club. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pilgrim Manor and Hospice of Michigan for their loving and compassionate care of Toddy. In lieu of flowers, a donation to First (Park) Congregational Church, Pilgrim Manor Foundation or Hospice of Michigan is appreciated. Visitation will be Sunday, June 5 from 1-5 pm at the Ofield Funeral Home, with a Memorial Service at 11am on Monday, June 6 at the funeral home. A private interment in the columbarium at Park Church will be held at a later date.
