IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Allan
Yates
December 28, 1948 – August 9, 2025
William (Bill) Allan Yates, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 76. Born on December 28, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, Bill's life was filled with adventure and a deep love for his family and community.
Throughout his life, Bill called many places home — including Washington, Oregon, California, and Michigan — building a life marked by warmth, resilience and purpose.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Dudley Yates; his parents, Gil and Sunny Yates; and his brother, Brian Yates. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Julia Scott (Keith), Cynthia Nutwell (Dan), and Andrew Yates (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Jason and Samantha Scott, Luke, Aaron and Mark Nutwell, and Liam Yates; his brothers, Bruce Yates (Shelley) and Bob Yates (Sandy); and a wide circle of brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A proud graduate of Creston High School, Bill went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University and an MBA from Grand Valley State University. His strong work ethic and sharp mind carried him through a successful and varied career in sales, forecasting, and real estate. Bill worked for notable companies such as Gerber Products Company, Zondervan Publishing House, and Greenridge Realty, and founded his own business, WAY Enterprises (franchise owner, Computer Renaissance), reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit.
Bill served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves and continued to serve others throughout his life. He was a faithful volunteer for Meals on Wheels, always eager to lend a hand and brighten someone's day.
In his personal life, Bill found joy in life's simple pleasures: casting a fishing line, taking the boat out on the water, golfing, football, singing in choirs and musical theater productions, and savoring a good slice of pie. His love for singing and performance brought smiles to many, and his lighthearted spirit was contagious.
Bill's life was a testament to kindness, humor and dedication to family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bill's memory to Meals on Wheels Western Michigan or a charity of your choice.
