Obituary

William Clifton “Moon” Wright, born on March 6, 1948, in Sunflower County, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

A proud graduate of Benton Harbor High School, William excelled as a talented athlete and earned his place as a letterman on the high school baseball team. His passion for sports remained a constant throughout his life, and he continued to enjoy playing basketball well into his 60s.

William dedicated over 30 years of service to Dial A Ride in Benton Harbor, where he lived for the majority of his life. He was known for his deep love of sports and cherished the time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Rachel (Gary) Gipson of Grand Rapids, Michigan; grandchildren Marquis Woodson of Dallas, Texas; Kristopher Woodson, Devon Woodson, Jakoya Wright and Vontrey Doubley of Grand Rapids, Michigan; sister Sheila (Lee) Jones; brothers Larry Sims, Danny Wright, Tony Sims, and Timmy Sims of Benton Harbor; and his life partner Geraldine Porter. He also leaves behind stepchildren Trevetta (Corey) Isom of Fort Worth, Texas; Lee Hartz of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Shalisa Porter of Collinsville, Virginia; Yolanda (Deontrell) Smith; and Derrell Porter of Benton Harbor. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews will forever hold him in their hearts.

William was preceded in death by his mother Ethellene Sims; brother James Wright; and sisters Sylvia (Jean) Wright, Joyce Wright, and Martha (Sue) Wright.

William’s legacy is one of devotion to family and community. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
