Schavey

William Schavey died on June 24, 17 days short of his 100th birthday.
He was the son of Clayton and Irene Schavey, William graduated from Grand Ledge High School. During WW2 he served as a marine in the South Pacific. After the war he went on to graduate from the University of Arizona with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He put his engineering education to work in various ways including home building, co-owning Schavey Sales, a hardware store in Mulliken and owning Lakewood Lumber in Lake Odessa. Later, he and his son owned Bill and Mike's Energy Shed in Woodbury, which, ahead of its time, focused on alternative energy including solar. He loved the outdoors. In golf, he scored a hole-in-one in league play at age 88.
William was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Genevieve, his sister Donna Barker and his great great granddaughter Aveline Thompson.
He is survived by his children Mike (Sharen) Schavey of Hastings, and JoAnn (Dan) Rachor of Hudsonville, his brother Jim Schavey of Pentwater, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 16 great- great-grandchildren and two nieces.
A private memorial service will be held July 15. Service Details.
