Obituary

William Bruce Roon, age 79 of Wyoming, Michigan, died on May 25, 2022, due to a variety of chronic conditions, exacerbated by COVID. He was born on December 11, 1942, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Henry and Ada Roon who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Chris) McMillan and his son, Michael Ryan Roon. In addition, he has four grandchildren, Casey Rose (Evan) VanHattum, Hayden (Mikaela) McMillan, Max Henry McMillan, and Cameron Pride, as well as one great granddaughter, Layla. He is also survived by his sister, Kathleen Roon (David) Hunscher of Ypsilanti, Michigan and a niece, Dana (Chris) Cox, and a nephew, Matthew Horner.

Bill graduated from Grand Rapids South High School in 1960 where he participated in a variety of sports including swimming, baseball, and cross country. He served in the United States Army Reserves. Once out of the service, he became a Tool and Die Apprentice and later achieved his Journeyman Certification. Once established, he and his partners founded and developed Future Tool and Die in Grandville, Michigan. He loved the outdoors, spending his early years hunting with his dad, not only on local farms, but also in Wyoming and Montana. He loved to fish and began tying his own fishing flies at age 12 and passed his love of the sport on to his son, grandson, and son-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, Bill would encourage you to contribute to one of his favorite charities, The Alliance for the Great Lakes. Contributions can be made on-line at greatlakes.org.
