William O. Newell ,age 82, left us on April 12, 2022. Bill was born March 2, 1940 in Grand Rapids and later moved to Saranac with his parents and sisters. During his high school years, he became a valued football player, talented Jr. marksman, and met the love of his life. He married Donna Jean Hale in June 1958. They loved each other for over 60 years. Bill cared for her at home during her years struggling with Alzheimer's disease. She passed away April 7 2019 and his heart yearned to be with her ever since. During their years together, they shared a love for gardening and took great joy in preserving home grown foods and sharing garden yields with many friends and family members. They also loved spending time together at yard sales & flea markets with Bill's sisters.

Most of all, Bill loved his family. He was active in his son's and grandchildren's lives. He was very skilled as a carpenter and helped them with building projects from kitchen remodel to horse barn and more. He loved watching his grandkids in their horse shows and sports events, as well as teaching them how to hunt and fish.

Bill was best known for the wonderful woman he married, but second on the list was his expertise in hunting and other outdoor activities. He had many hunting friends that he shared his expertise with. He was always eager to get someone new started into the hobby he love and encouraged true sportsmanship by all. Both his boys inherited his love of the outdoors. Up until his final years he was never without at least one fine, well-trained dog, usually more.

Donna cared lovingly for him and the home that he built for them while he worked at Steelcase for nearly 40 years. He is survived by his sons Bill Newell Jr, Saranac, Dan (Kim) Newell, Saranac, grandchildren Adam (Erin) Newell, Caledonia, Jessica (Brandon) Walkington, Lake Odessa, Samantha Newell, Greenville SC, Danielle Newell, Saranac and seven great grand children. Surviving sibling is Dorothy (Steve) Luce, Byron Center. Bill was preceded in death by his infant son, Jeffrey, his parents Lyle & Oleda Newell, his sister, Jean Leson, and his loving wife, Donna Jean Newell. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Both visitation and memorial service will be held at Saranac Community Church on Friday, April 22 with Pastor Becky Poor officiating. Visitation at 11am, service at 12pm followed by a luncheon catered by Miss P's catering. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Responders at the Saranac Fire Department.
