William "Bill" Ensign II, age 63, of Whitehall passed away peacefully at his home on April 20, 2020. He was born on April 20, 1957 in Muskegon to William and Joyce (Walsworth) Ensign. He graduated from Orchard View High School in 1975. Bill married his high school sweetheart, the former Cathy Goodman, two years later, on May 14, 1977. Together, Bill and Cathy settled in Whitehall, where they raised their three daughters. Bill was hardworking and humble. Throughout his life, Bill was an avid gardener and took great pride in his lawn and yard. He enjoyed planting and harvesting his crops, as well as sharing the harvest with family, friends and neighbors. Bill also enjoyed tinkering in the garage and coming up with creative projects. Bill looked forward to the NCAA March Madness tournament every year and particularly enjoyed watching the MSU Spartans play. In his life, there is nothing that Bill was more proud of, or loved more than his family. Bill will be missed by many. He is survived by his parents, William and Joyce (Walsworth) Ensign; loving wife of 43 years, Cathy (Goodman) Ensign; three daughters Carly (Patrick) LaFontaine, Ashley (Brett) Harper, Kelcy (Brian) McArthur; grandchildren Grayson, Liam, Hayden, and Lucy; sister Pamela (Earl) Geiger, many nieces and nephews, as well as several extended family members and many lifelong friends. Due to social distancing, a celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.
