Vivian Ann
Hanson
Aug 21, 1943 — Jun 23, 2026
Born in Charlevoix Michigan as the middle sibling to two brothers, Ann grew up with a tenacious Irish spirit that she carried with her throughout her life. After earning her teaching degree at Central Michigan University, Ann used her platform to become a fierce advocate for gender and racial equity, eventually becoming the Vice President of the Grand Rapids chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW). After raising her three children, Ann pursued her entrepreneurial drive, going on to establish and run a successful resale clothing store for 25 years.
Ann had a rare gift for making people feel uniquely cherished. She adored the people she had in her life, with many of them being her "best friends". Depending on the day of the week, each of her children could be her favorite, and she loved all of her grand children. Her home and her heart were always wide open.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Hellen Phillips and her brother Peter Phillips. She is survived by her younger brother Richard Phillips, three children, Elizabeth (Joe) Fulsher, Mark Hanson, and Kevin (Robin) Hanson; and her four adored grandsons, Kenneth, Jacob, Brodan and Nicholas.
Many thanks to Hospice of Michigan for their outstanding care and support during Mom's final months. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to this nonprofit organization.
