September 22, 2012 Service: September 28, 2012 Violet Joan Jeffers, age 84, of Grand Rapids, went home to Jesus on September 22, 2012, following a 6 year battle with dementia. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Jeffers, sisters, Anne Storkan and Francis Howard, and brothers, Michael Polavin and Robert Polakovich. She is survived by her children, Brian Jeffers, Kevin (Sue) Jeffers, Kathy (Tom) Petzold, Julie (Jim) VanderMolen; nine grandchildren, Jill (John), Erin, Jacob, Steve, Jessica, Hanna, Annie, Grace, and Brayton; and great grandson, Conner. Joan was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a dedicated volunteer through much of her life and especially enjoyed volunteering at Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Church, Blodgett Hospital and God's Kitchen. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 28th at 11:00am at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth Road SE. The family will meet with friends and relatives Thursday, September 27th from 6-8pm at the Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo SE and Friday 10-11am before the service at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Memorial contributions to Immaculate Heart of Mary Angel Fund (provides tuition assistance to children attending the school) or Alzheimer's Association. The family would like to thank the people who cared for Joan while she still lived at home and later at Clark Nursing Home.
