Obituary

Vickii Nichols, née Schlipp, passed away on February 27, 2024, at the age of 74. Born on August 21, 1949, Vickii embraced life's adventures with a matter-of-fact attitude from her early years. She spent her life with her husband of 57 years, Captain Don Nichols, sharing numerous adventures that included travels to Jamaica, Belize, Venezuela, and a memorable sailing trip across the Virgin Islands.

Vickii is survived by her husband, their children, Captain Donald S. Nichols and Dr. Deborah Nichols, her mother, Delores Schlipp, her sister Laurie Schlipp, and her brother Ward Schlipp. Preceding her in death were her father, Leonard Schlipp, and two brothers. Her grandchildren, Sydney Sawyer (Aaron), Devyn Lee (Joshua), Alexander, Callahan, Sophia, and Beckett Linebarger, along with her great-grandchildren, Knolyn Fritz-Nichols and Emily Sawyer, brought her immense joy in her later years.

In South Haven, Vickii and Don made significant contributions to the community's waterfront, including introducing perch fishing boats, and helping to develop the Idler riverboat restaurant, the Village, Old Harbor Inn, and Nichols Landing. Each spring, Vickii took pleasure in beautifying these areas and her own home by planting many lovely flowers.

Vickii's later years found her working at the South Haven Police Department, a role that provided great fulfillment and allowed her to serve her community with pride. Known for her straightforward and practical approach, Vickii was respected and admired by those who knew her.

Reflecting her love and talent for gardening, Vickii chose not to have a service. Instead, she requested that you donate to your local community garden. In South Haven, you might consider the South Haven Garden Club, an organization aligned with her passion for enhancing her community and personal spaces with beautiful plantings. Contributions can support the continuation of beautification projects and gardening education within the community that Vickii loved. For those who wish to honor Vickii's memory, donations can be made through their website at [https://www.southhavengardenclub.org].

Vickii's life was characterized by her adventurous spirit, love for her family, and meaningful contributions to her community. Her legacy is a testament to a life well-lived, marked by resilience, directness, and a deep commitment to the people she loved the most.
