Obituary

Travis Michael McReynolds, 53, of Naples, FL died on June 5, 2025 from a Glioblastoma. Diagnosed in September and given two months to live, he opted for treatments and hard work while enduring right-side paralysis after biopsy. Travis wanted as many days as he could get. Anyone asking him how he was doing always got the same reply: "I'm good!".

Since the beginning of this tough journey 9 months ago, his sister, Erin, devoted herself to managing the many complexities. Her stalwart navigator, Molly Casey shouldered the cross with her. His Aunt Diane stepped in whenever / wherever necessary, allowing Travis' Mom and Son, Zyon, to be his full-time caregivers. He was moved to Grand Rapids from Naples, Florida the end of December to be near family and continue treatment. His brother, Kevin, visited nearly daily to help, cheer, feed, and be his best friend.  A steady stream of dear friends visited, brought food, listened to music, watched movies and kept vigil. The care team at Cascade Trails Assisted Living bonded and blanketed him with love and tenderness, his "dream team". Faith Hospice was immediately responsive in his last days, his family is so grateful for excellent care. None of the caring part could have happened without the continuous devotion and support of our prayer warriors and generous benefactors. We feel God's tender loving vigilance in every breath.

Travis was born in Grand Rapids, MI September 18,1971, first born to James Timm and Vickie McReynolds. He attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School and Catholic Central. He was an altar boy, Eagle Scout and soccer player. He graduated from The University of Michigan, Magna Cum Laude, with double degrees in Literature and Communications, and wrote and edited for the student newspaper, The Michigan Daliy. He worked part-time at Wazoo Records reinforcing his love and appreciation of music. It seems appropriate to note, Travis was a devoted "Dead Head" (Grateful Dead), attending countless concerts, his favorite song, Dark Star. He was adventurous, traveling the national parks, Europe, (DJ-ing in Germany for 6 months), visited Russia, Cuba, the Caribbean regions and South America.

After working and managing Ron Jon Surf Shops in Cocoa Beach and Ft. Myers he started his own DJ business.  It flourished taking him to many beautiful venues inside and beyond FL.  Travis took great pleasure in delighting his clients with the music they loved.  It was always his goal to get them on the dance floor, and he succeeded.  His depth of music was encyclopedic.  He was a master gardener, a great cook and loved serving his friends and family delicious food. He was an avid collector of rare treasures with the goal to one day open an Oddities Museum in FL. Many of his artifacts, signed posters, art and treasures were sold.

A dear friend recently said "Aside from one bump in the road he lived an enchanted life" and indeed he did. He always intended to write his memoir, and we so wish he could have had the time.  Another wrote "...I continue to pray for a miracle that never came, but in actuality, I believe that miracle is you, your upbeat attitude, skills and knowledge and most importantly for being authentic..." We so appreciated his love of people and his gift of being interesting!

Travis was preceded in death by his Dad, Timm McReynods, 18 months ago. He leaves a legacy of strength, perseverance, love and hope for his son Zyon McReynolds, his mother, Vickie McReynolds, his sister, Erin (and Brock) Schuiteman, brother, Kevin McReynolds, and nephews Kai and Asa Schuiteman, his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and so very many cherished and long time friends far and wide; Kuro, his adoring Shiba Inu, who now is a loving companion to Zyon.

On Friday, June 20, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1935 Plymouth Ave., SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49506, Fr. David Jameson will officiate Mass.  The family will receive friends in the back of church at 10 A.M. and Mass begins at 11 A.M.
