Toffie Abbasse, age 93, of Lowell, surrounded by his family passed away on Thursday, April 14th, 2022.
Toffie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Abbasse, only son, Dave Abbasse, parents Mahomed and Elsie Abbasse, and 9 brothers and sisters. Toffie is survived by his loving children, Becky (Pat) Emery, Deb (Ron) VanZalen, Shelly (Gary) Abbring and Melissa (Brian) Bosak, grandchildren, Mandy (Tom) Bush, Nic (Carrie) Emery, Ryan (Heather) Abbasse, Chris (Susie) VanZalen, Meagan (Adam) Fisch, Brian (Molly) Abbring, Kelsey (Jacob) Raines, and Justin Anderson, 10 great-grandchildren, loving sister, Bess Richardson, special friend, Dorothy Glass, many nieces and nephews, and his special family in California and Idaho.
Toffie proudly served his country in the Army during WWII. He started with GM in 1953, he was a Journeyman die maker, and a member of UAW Local 730, he had multiple roles as a Committeeman, Vice President, and President. In 1977 Toffie was asked to join UAW Region 1D as an International Representative serving not only GM workers, but workers throughout West Michigan. He retired from the UAW after 39 years of dedicated service. Toffie was an avid golfer, card player, and loved to cook his Syrian food, but most of all he loved his family and will be dearly missed and always loved.
Funeral services for Toffie will be held on April 19th at 10:45am at Ofield Funeral Home, interment will follow at Fairplains Cemetery at 12:30. The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday April 18th from 6-8pm and again on Tuesday from 9:45-10:45am. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Toffie's honor to Faith Hospice.
