IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Dane
Sorenson
October 3, 1946 – October 3, 2024
Thomas Dane Sorenson left the world peacefully the morning of his 78th birthday October 3rd, 2024. Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Judy (Dale) Sturm. He is survived by his wife Mare, his brother John Sorenson, his sister Anne Sorenson, several nieces and nephews, his two children Drew (Lorin) Sorenson, Martha (Brent) Velting, and his grandchildren Leila, Levi, Luke, and Arie. He was a proud graduate of East Grand Rapids Schools and University of Michigan.
He will be remembered for his witty quips, dad jokes, sarcasm, obsession with U of M football, eclectic music, strumming his guitar, and the deep love he felt for his family. He loved his community at Neland Avenue Church and rarely missed Men's Bible Study and Game Group. He and Mare journeyed through peaks and valleys all the while Tom remained steadfast. Those who knew him - knew that Tom would drop everything for whoever needed a hand. Between taking SOS calls from his kids who are directionally challenged, running over to drop off a tool, stepping in to provide emergency childcare, delivering a batch of goulash—he was accessible and open hearted to all. His family was so proud of his recovery and the work he did to overcome addiction. He had over 20 years of sobriety. Tom's last year was particularly full as he and Mare downsized their home, traveled to Europe, camped, and spent lots of time with their grandkids. We thank God for his colorful life and the impact he had on those around him.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Wednesday, October 9 at Neland Avenue Church (940 Neland St SE Grand Rapids, MI 49507). The family will greet guests from 6-7pm and the Memorial Service will start at 7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rehoboth Christian School or The Alano Club of Kent County - two organizations that gave shape to Tom's life.

'Cause son your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
