Schoon, Thomas J., age 71, from Plainfield Township, passed away at U of M Health-West Hospital Tuesday Oct 26, 2021, with his family by his side.

He was preceded in death on August 30, 2021 by his sister, Ruth Schoon Dominiak of Brentwood, California.

He is survived by his special friend of 38 years, Colleen Hanrahan of Grand Rapids, his brother Douglas (Vicki) Schoon of Lowell, and his sisters Joyce (Lewis) Belka of Rockford and Barbara (James) Stellema of Caledonia.

Tom was the "fun uncle" to his nieces and nephews who will always be remembered for the giant pumpkins he grew for them. They were the envy of their friends and neighbors.

A 1967 graduate of Ottawa Hills High School, he immediately went to work for Diesel Equipment for 30 years until his retirement.

A very caring and giving man, Tom was best known as "The Mole Man", servicing customers on the north end of town. Many of these customers would go on to be great friends. His fame and personality was perfectly captured in a humorous article written for The Grand Rapids Press by Tom Rademaker.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to his friends and neighbors who helped him by watching out for him, cutting his lawn and blowing snow out of his driveway as his health because a challenge.

Cremation has taken place per his wishes. Service Details.
