IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Wesley
Perrin
December 31, 1951 – January 25, 2025
Thomas Wesley Perrin, aged 73, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, died Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his home. He was born December 31, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Wesley and Doris Perrin. He and his siblings attended Creston High School, where Tom graduated with the Class of 1970. He went on to earn an undergraduate degree in Education at Central Michigan University and a master's degree from Michigan State University. Tom had met Mary Judy when they were both on the Board of Directors of their high school senior class and, even though they attended different universities, they began dating at the end of their sophomore year of college. Mary and Tom were married in 1974 in Grand Rapids at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, and soon after Tom began his career as a Social Studies teacher in the Northview School District in Grand Rapids. Tom taught middle school for 30 years and was proud to impact the lives of many young people, setting them up with a grounding in civics and citizenship. After Mary was called to serve as priest in 2004, Tom retired from teaching and they moved to Kalamazoo where Mary would lead St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church and Tom would play an integral role in the congregation, including making several trips to serve a sister diocese in India.
Tom had a gentle, bright soul, a wonderful sense of humor, uncommon loyalty, and was a friend to many. He was a loving, devoted husband to Mary, who survives him. He is also survived by his brother, Bill (Theresa) Perrin of Hickory, NC; nieces and nephews, Matt (Katie) Besemer, Erin (Chris Jamieson) Berg, Chris (Jessica) Perrin, and Jennie (Kevin) Sims; great-nieces and nephews, Lily, Cameron, Violet, Rose, Wyatt, and Colin; and cherished friends-chosen-to-be-family, Jack and Jayne VanderVeen [and their sons, Perrin (Colleen) and Cody (Vivian); and their grandchildren, Peter, Morgan, Sydney, and Harvey]. Tom will be met in Heaven by his parents, Wes and Doris; sisters, Sally Crame and Sandy Berg; and several amazing dogs.
A Memorial Service honoring Tom's life will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11:00am, at St. Martin of Tours Episcopal Church, 2010 Nichols Rd, Kalamazoo.
If you wish to honor Tom with a charitable donation, please consider St. Martin's India Ministry, Rector's Discretionary Fund, or Memorial Fund; or a charity of your choice.
