Obituary

Theodore "Ted" Robert Sjoerdsma, age 80, of Hudsonville, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, surrounded by the people he loved most.

Born on February 16, 1945, in Beaverdam, Wisconsin, Ted lived a life full of quiet strength, steady devotion, and a love that showed itself in everything he did. For more than 54 years, he worked as a truck driver in the paper-recycling industry before moving into dispatching—roles he took pride in and poured his whole heart into. His strong work ethic, quick wit, and simple, honest way of seeing the world made him someone people trusted and admired.

When he wasn't working, you could usually find him outside—gardening, making wine, hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air. The outdoors was his happy place, and he shared that joy with anyone lucky enough to spend time with him.

But above all, Ted was a family man. Nothing meant more to him than his wife, his children, and the growing family that filled his life with purpose. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathy; his children, Michele Vis, Shannon Huizenga, Lance (Alicia) Sjoerdsma, Clint (Kerry) Sjoerdsma, and Brian (Emily) Sjoerdsma; 16 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother; 4 sisters; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and close friends. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Those who knew Ted will remember his one-of-a-kind, trucker-style humor, his generous spirit, his quiet wisdom, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and valued. He had a gift for making people laugh, willingness to lend a helping hand, and for showing up when it mattered. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.

Ted came to his faith later in life, but it became an important and steady part of who he was. His trust in God brought him peace, perspective, and a deeper appreciation for the people he loved.

A memorial service will be held on December 6, 2025, at Georgetown Bible Church, 4114 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, Michigan. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital or the Ronald McDonald House—organizations that held special meaning to Ted.

The service will also be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Faith Hospice and Georgetown Bible Church for their love, support, and compassion during this difficult time.

Ted will be deeply missed and forever loved.
