Terrance Allen Despres, 55, of Grand Rapids, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 after fighting a tough battle with cancer and heart failure. Terrance (Terry) was born on January 28, 1961 in Grand Rapids. Terry graduated from Central High School in 1979, and was an All-City Athlete. He held a record in Hockey for scoring 3 goals in 21 seconds. Terry loved to hunt, fish, play hockey, basketball, baseball, bowl, and spend time with his family and friends. In his younger years, Terry managed a bakery at Sy's Market, which he loved. He went on to work various truck loading positions all over Grand Rapids. In a lifetime we seldom meet someone with the infectious personality and sense of humor that Terry possessed. Although Terry didn't have a lot, he was always looking to help others in need, and would give anyone the shirt off his back. Terry never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Terrance is survived by his daughters Melissa (Chris) Byrd of Allentown, PA, Stephanie (Lee) Kleinow of Traverse City, Riki Despres, son Terrance Despres Jr., and grandchildren Raelyn Byrd, Kinslee Byrd and Vienna Kleinow. Also surviving him are his parents Arthur and Shirley Despres, siblings Michael Despres, Steven (Sue) Despres, Cheri (John) Deering and Renee (Derek) Fox, as well as several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Terry will forever be missed by those who cherished him most. Visitation will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10 a.m. with a Memorial Service beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Parish, 224 Carrier Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49505; a luncheon will follow.
