Obituary

Sybil (Caine) Kellogg passed peacefully in her sleep with family in Hopkins, Michigan at the age of 89. Born on June 23, 1930 in Somerville, Massachusetts, she was the eldest of four daughters of Canadian immigrants Edward and Alexandra (Roach) Caine. In 1952, she graduated with a nursing degree from Massachusetts General Hospital. During the Korean War she met Paul L. Kellogg and they married in 1953. They eventually settled in Boulder Hill, Illinois in 1959 where they raised their three children Paul, Sandi and Juli.

She loved the outdoors and through annual camping trips inspired that passion in her family. She and her husband Paul fulfilled a bucket list wish by traveling to all 50 states photographing each state capitol. With family and friends she also visited over 15 countries. Sybil enjoyed nature and for many years was very active as a volunteer at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. In 1997 they resettled in Loda, IL. In her 22 years in Loda she became a published poet, was a member of the local library board and book club, was active in the Lake Iroquois Women's Club, enjoyed attending local theater productions and other community activities with her best friend Norma Matson. She loved spending time with her family, taking pictures, bird watching, gardening, reading, doing crosswords in ink and watching PBS.

Sybil is preceded in death by her husband Paul and her sister Nancy. She is survived by her sisters, Joan [Dick] Hill, Sandra [John] Wentzell, her son Paul E. [Carolyn] Kellogg, daughters Sandi [Mike] Ostrowski, Juli [Bill] Nelson, grandchildren Daniel [Amanda] Kellogg, Michael [Yoonji] Kellogg, Wil [Kerri] Nelson, Alexandra (Nelson) [Ben] Gratz, Ali and Julie Ostrowski, her great granddaughters Emma and Evelyn Kellogg, and her cat and constant companion Dexter.

A Celebration of Life will take place in Loda, Illinois this summer depending upon on how the Covid-19 pandemic progresses.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to your local PBS station.

A special thank you to the staff of Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County, Michigan for the compassionate care they provided Sybil.
