Obituary

Susan Meade (née McBride), age 84, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Byron Center, Michigan. Born on May 8, 1941, in Hopkins, Michigan, Susan lived a life filled with love, dedication, and creativity.

Susan was a devoted mother of six children and spent her early years as a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child reached middle school. She then embarked on a career that showcased her remarkable skills as a seamstress. Susan worked at Kessler in Wayland until its closure and later joined the team at Big Top (Harding's) Market in Plainwell, where she worked behind the meat counter. She concluded her professional journey as a seamstress at Haworth in Allegan.

Known for her warmth and generosity, Susan touched many lives through her talents and hobbies. She was celebrated for her homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, which brought joy to family and friends alike. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler who enjoyed the camaraderie of the sport. Her passion for sewing extended beyond her career; she loved to knit and crochet, often creating winter hats and mittens to donate to local elementary schools-a testament to her caring spirit.

Susan is survived by her children: Pamela Meade of Grandville, MI; Kimberly (Jack) Templin of Allegan, MI; Debora Meade of Otsego, MI; Allen (Sonya) Meade Jr. of Dew, TX; Sheila Lively of Plainwell, MI; and Tammie (Aisake) Cava of Lincoln Park, MI. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren who will cherish her memory. Additionally, Susan is survived by her siblings Richard (Pat) McBride and Beverly Berge.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Allen G. Meade Sr., as well as several brothers and sisters.

Susan's legacy is one of love, kindness, and selflessness. Her contributions to her family and community will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

In accordance with Susan's wishes, she will be cremated. A service and memorial will be held at a later date at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trillium Woods Faith Hospice of Byron Center.

May Susan's memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
