IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan Carol
Hopkins
November 10, 1965 – August 28, 2025
Susan Carol (Carley) Hopkins, age 59, of Byron Center, formerly of Holland, MI, departed this life for her heavenly home on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
She was born on November 10, 1965, to Robert and Patricia Carley of Holland, MI. Susan was preceded in death by Patricia Carley in 2012 and Robert Carley in 2014.
She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 25 years, Dennis Hopkins Jr. and her daughter Carley Hopkins of Byron Center, Son Nick and wife Mandy Hopkins, and grandchildren Jordyn, Aubree and Kyler Hopkins, all of Wyoming. Sister-in-law Lori and husband Russ Bloomer of Byron Center. Brother-in-law Robert and wife Trisha Hopkins of Howard City. Aunt Mona Sharp of Muskegon, cousins Terry and wife Robin Sharp of Walker. Nieces and nephews; Travis Hopkins, Hollee Hopkins, Troy Bloomer, Jocelin, Stewart and Jade Gould.
Susan graduated from West Ottawa High School in 1984 and went on to attend Baker Business College. In her youth, she loved baton twirling and competed in championships, even performing proudly in the marching band. She carried that same determination and joy throughout her life. Susan worked in sales for many years, from beauty products to office roles, and made countless friendships along the way.
In 2011, Susan founded a Girl Scouts troop, which she led with passion and dedication until 2018, leaving a lasting impact on the young girls she mentored. During those years, she created countless experiences that shaped the lives of the girls she mentored. Together, they camped at John Ball Zoo, built an outdoor area at Hugs Ranch, and volunteered nearly every month in the community. Every Christmas, Susan organized visits to local nursing homes, where the girls sang carols and made crafts with the residents, bringing joy to their holidays. Each Valentine's Day, they volunteered at Gilda's Club of Grand Rapids, preparing food and sharing crafts with those most affected by cancer. Under her guidance, the troop also created handmade goods to sell at yearly craft shows, teaching the girls both creativity and responsibility. Through these traditions, Susan instilled in her scouts the values of service, compassion, and friendship- leaving a legacy that will be carried on for years to come.
She was known for her bravery, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and friends. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren, whom she adored.
