IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stephen Peter
Volpe, Jr.
December 4, 1953 – December 16, 2022
Stephen Peter Volpe Jr., 69, of Kentwood, MI. passed away on December 16, 2022, at
home with his family, after a hard-fought battle with Pancreatic Cancer.
Stephen "Big Steve" was born on December 4, 1953, in Downey, CA, to Stephen Peter
David Joseph Volpe Sr. and Marie Barbara (Frowine) Otgen. He was preceded in death
by his parents and wife Marlene Mary (Glowacki) Volpe. He is survived by his loving
family; son, Nick A. (Rebecca) Volpe, his only "precious" granddaughter, Brianna
Catherine Volpe and many cherished nieces and nephews along with very special
friends, neighbors, and caregivers.
Throughout his life, he dedicated his focus on work and family. He started working at
the age of 13 years old at Western Skies Restaurant – a "mom and pop" place located in
Anaheim, CA. where he would wash dishes, then learn to cook and eventually run the
kitchen. Over the years he worked and managed many restaurants until he found his
passion of caregiving. He spent over the past 20 years at Heartland Health Care. He
truly has impacted so many lives with the work he loved doing by helping others.
Patients and families have referred to him as an "Angel on this Earth", because of his
compassion with patients in their last days and love and his benevolence for people
truly left an amazing legacy. He was a mentor to many in his field, and within the
community of hospice health care. Big Steve radiated love that you could feel the
second you met him. His smile and laugh lit up any room, followed by the scent of his
cologne!
He will be dearly missed, but we will always carry with us our memories and how deeply
he loved all of us. We all are going to miss you very much, and your amazing
cheesecakes. A special thank you to all who cared for him over this long journey. The
family will receive family and friends at Ofield Funeral Home located at 4500
Kalamazoo Avenue, Kentwood, MI. Tuesday, December 20, 2022, with visitation at 10
a.m. and Funeral Services at 12 p.m. The family suggests memorial contributions be
made to ProMedica Hospice (fka: Heartland Hospice) or Michelle Lunn Hope
Foundation. "We will miss your smile and holding your hand!
