IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley
Frederick
July 11, 1952 – December 18, 2024
It is with deep heartache that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Frederick (Winchell) on December 18, 2024, in Battle Creek, Michigan at the age of 72.
Shirley was born in Battle Creek on July 11, 1952. She graduated from Olivet High School. She lived in her generational home in Athens that previously belonged to her mother. Shirley spent her professional life working as a Case Worker for the State of Michigan until she retired early due to medical reasons.
She loved spending the summers at family camp at Potawatomi Campgrounds in Girard or doing cookouts at her home. In the winters, her and her brother, Richard traveled south to North Carolina to visit with their friend, Lake, and avoid the winter weather. Shirley loved sharing her home with pets throughout her life. She was a big dog lover. She also enjoyed riding Harley Davidsons until her medical needs no longer allowed her to. In her spare time, she loved doing crafts such as creating dream catchers. She spent the last month of her life living with her granddaughter and grandson-in-law bonding with their dogs and enjoying listening to rock music.
She is survived in death by her husband, Randy Frederick, her daughter Jennifer Burns (Rustin), her son Ian Frederick (Britt), her granddaughters Traci Alger (John) and Brandi Hickman (Brody), her grandson David Burns. Her great grandchildren Ashlynn, William, Benjamin, and Jennifer. Her brothers Ralph Winchell (Denise) and Richard Winchell, her sister Mary Hay (Dennis), her niece Krystal Wiler (Kody), and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
She is preceded in death by her parents Helen and Frank Winchell, her brothers Ronald Winchell and Frank Jr. Winchell, her sister Barbara Dunham, and her sister-in-law Connie Frederick.
Shirley will be remembered for her strong will, her love for her family and her beautiful spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elara Caring at 4664 Campus Drive Suite 101A Kalamazoo MI 49008. They were pivotal in her end-of-life care.
A grave side service will be held in the spring and a celebration of life is planned for next year on Shirley's birthday.
