Obituary

Sheryl (Sherrie) Lee Peterson (Wildey) of Grand Rapids, MI, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2026. She was born to James and Betty Wildey on June 8, 1959 at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Sherrie was the oldest of 3 daughters. She was a 1977 graduate of East Kentwood High School and went on to get her Associates Degree from Grand Rapids Community College. She loved working with children so much that she worked as a paraprofessional for Grand Rapids Public Schools for over 30 years. She also cared for the infants and toddlers of her church for many years.

Sherrie is survived by her beloved husband of almost 46 years Tom, her loving children Mindy, Tommy (Beth), Heather, adoring grandson Charlie Peterson, her sisters Karen Goorhouse and Kim Mastenbrook, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of chosen family members. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her family would like to thank the amazing staff at Blodgett Hospital and at Meijer Heart Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday May 2, 2026 at 1pm at First Park Congregational Church, located at 10 E. Park Place NE, Grand Rapids. Visitation will be prior to the service from 11:30-1 also at First Park Congregational Church with a luncheon to follow the service. A livestream will be available via the church’s YouTube page.

Those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy are encouraged to make a donation to the Santa Claus Girls of Kent County which was an organization near and dear to Sherrie.
