Obituary

Sharron Rita Saigeon, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, died on April 25, 2026. Her daughter, sister, niece, and best friend were at her side. Sharron was born on May 12, 1943 to Jean A. Bradley Smith and Ernest G. Saigeon.

Sharron grew up in Grand Rapids, attending Union High School. She married the late David L. Olson and started a family. She is preceded in death by baby girl Jeannie Marie Olson and baby boy David Leon Olson II, and survived by daughter Marianne.

As a kid in Michigan, Sharron spent a lot of time in the outdoors at her grandparents’ cabin. She picked berries, rowed a little boat around the lake by herself, and left worms in the pocket of her blue jeans to be fished out by grandma on wash day. As Sharron remembered it, she was grandpa’s favorite.

Sharron moved to Florida in the early 1970’s and lived in Miami for twenty years before moving back to Michigan. In South Florida, she fostered a sense of wonder for the outdoors in her daughter too, taking her scuba diving, bird watching, and canoeing. Her daughter went on to have a career in conservation and outdoor education because of her influence.

Sharron loved dancing and music. She frequently went to concerts and theater. Some of her favorite musicians were the Carter Family, Hank Williams Sr, Elvis, Jimmy Buffett, and Alan Jackson. She enjoyed singing along loud and off key in the car and at home.

Sharron was known for her snarky sense of humor, her penchant for giving advice, whether solicited or not, and for forthright sharing of her opinions. She was also a loyal champion for friends and family and loved by many, especially the Friends of Bill who helped her celebrate 42 years of sobriety. Sharron was the AA Central Office Manager for 17 years and sponsored many people in recovery. She said that investing time in others kept her own recovery strong.

Sharron is preceded in death by her grandparents Eli Bradley and Julia Barnes, her parents, 13 aunts and uncles, her infant son and daughter, and nephew Brandon Lowe. She is survived by:

· Daughter Marianne Aplin (Dave) of Eureka, CA

· Sister Michelle Saigeon Whyte

· Nieces: Jeannie Marie Lowe Wiarda (Bill), Tara Lowe, and Jamie Lowe (Brandon)

· Grand Nieces: Hannah, Shyanne, and Sequoia

· Grand Nephews: Joe, Moses, Josiah, Levi, and Dalton

· And many cousins
