A Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 24, 2025 at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Scott was born on February 17, 1955, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was one of five children to the late Allan J. and Patricia (Zenk) Vorel. In his childhood, Scott enjoyed scouting, sailing on Reeds Lake in East Grand Rapids, and was a great athlete in football, basketball, and track at Forest Hill Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While in high school, he attended trade school for landscaping, marking his first venture into owning a business after graduation. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Rogell, on August 8, 1974, shortly after their graduation, and spent fifty-one years together before he succumbed to cancer. They lived, worked, and raised two children, Brad and Traci, in their hometown in Michigan. Scott attended Grand Rapids Junior College, where he earned a journeyman's card in Tool and Die, becoming the third generation of men in the family, and was truly gifted in that field. He went on to own two companies, the first with his father and then independently for many years, before Team Pride of Megargel brought Scott and Carol to Texas in 2010. He then became the Tooling Engineer at Tower Fab, where he remained for many years before retiring. He loved his job and his co-workers. Scott was a man of God and was a devout member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved the culture and being in Texas, except for the hot weather, but missed his good friends and the climate of Michigan. In his free time, he enjoyed going fishing, landscaping, and building flower gardens. He loved his and Carol's collection of pets that they had over the years. Scott loved his family dearly and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan J. and Patricia (Zenk) Vorel, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his twin sister Cheryl Carlsen, their daughter Traci Renae Vorel, and his sister-in-law Karel Vorel.
Scott is survived by his wife, Carol Vorel, their son, Brad Vorel, and his brothers and sisters-in-law: Allan Vorel, Rick (Sherry) Vorel, and Mark (Juanita) Vorel.
Scott and I became aware of the need for dental help and cancer patients with Traci. She needed to have all dental work done before her treatment could begin. She and others struggle with the cost. Therefore we have supported this charity at Spectrum/Corewell Health. Memorial gifts can be made in Traci and Scott's memory and directed to the Cancer Program Patient Assistance. Please make checks payable to Corewell Health Foundation West Michigan. Kindly indicate that gift is in memory of Scott and Traci Vorel and designated to Cancer Program Patient Assistance – either in the memo line of the check or by including a note.
Checks may be mailed to:
