Obituary

Scott Alan Iler, 65, passed away on January 9, 2026, in Hastings, Michigan. Born on June 23, 1960, Scott lived a life filled with creativity, humor, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Scott grew up in Michigan, developing an early appreciation for the outdoors through his several years in boy scouts training. He graduated from East Detroit High School in 1978 and went on to build a career as a subcontractor in Michigan. His work reflected his intelligence and creativity as he honed his skills over many years.

Scott was known for his vibrant sense of humor and his ability to bring laughter to those around him. He had a passion for fishing and found joy in such things as camping, canoeing, swimming, playing games, and tending to his yard with care. A football enthusiast, Scott enjoyed watching games and cheering for his favorite teams. Music also played an important role in his life as he enjoyed singing and playing guitar.

Scott’s kindness and resourcefulness left an indelible mark on those who knew him. He is survived by his two daughters, Wendi and Rachael Iler; his brother Mark (Jess) Iler; his dearly loved friend Kathy Weyerman; and several other friends and family members who will remember him fondly.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Colleen Ann (Byrne) Iler; his parents, Doreen Mary Duguay and William David Iler; his sister Wendy Marie Iler; as well as his grandparents Alphonse and Edna Duguay and Charles and Flora Smith Iler.

Scott’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and resilience. May the memories of his humor, kindness, and creativity bring comfort to all who knew him.

A private celebration of life will be held on June 27, 2026.
