Samuel Jay Groothuis of Wyoming Michigan, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

Sam was a prominent member of the Grandville community for many years, running his own  plumbing company and was also heavily involved in the athletics of Grandville High School. The fish of Michigan are no doubt happy today since there was not a river, pond or lake in which Sam could not catch his limit. His love of the outdoors provided many happy moments- whether it  be on the golf course, the woods, or the baseball field. Sam was blessed with an outgoing  personality that allowed him to strike up conversations with anyone, anywhere, often much to  the chagrin of his family.

Sam was well-loved and will be missed by his wife of 25 years Kathy; his brother, Dan (Sheryl)  Groothuis; his loving children, Tracy (Mark) Ferguson and Todd (Kelly) Groothuis; his step-children, Michelle Rendak, Michael LaFontsee and John (Lisa) LaFontsee; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Groothuis, his sister, Carole Mackus and his brother, David Groothuis.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Sam's life with a visitation from 1:00-3:00 PM on Saturday, March 25 at Daybreak Community Church located at 3501 Baldwin Street in Hudsonville, MI.
