The family of Sammie Jane (Pas) Birdsall announces she went to be with the Lord and Savior April, 4 , 2018. She will join her husband of 55 years, Fredric Raymon Birdsall. Sammie was a resident of Freedom Village. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holland. Sammie was born July,14 1934 in Holland Michigan to Henry A.E. Pas and Albertine Stenson Pas. In 1952 Sammie graduated from Holland High School. She graduated from Hope College in 1956. In 1957, for 1 year, Sammie taught physically handicapped children at Grand Rapids Eastern Orthopedic. August 23, 1957 at Trinity Church in Holland, Sammie married Fredric Raymon Birdsall. 1958 Sammie taught at Neuman School the physically handicapped children in Chicago, ILL. 1959-1962 Sammie taught at Garfield School in West Harvey, Illinois. Here she received the United Cerebral Palsy certificate of award in recognition of outstanding service. In 1968 -1971 The family moved to Evanston, Illinois. Many Lifelong friends were made in such a short period of time. In 1971 The family moved to the Holland area. For some years she substitute taught special education. For 20 years Sammie became a Parent Advocate involved with organizations representing learning and emotionally disabled children. She was survived by her Children, Tim Birdsall of Holland, MI, Sarah and Steve Greenway of Greenville, MI and Martha Carlough of Durham, NC; Grandchildren, Patrick and Leslie Greenway of Grand Rapids, and Matthew Greenway of Lansing. Sister, Mary Elin (Polly) Schneider of Ann Arbor, MI; Brother in Law, David of Richfield Springs, NY, Jaimie of Lovington, NM, Sister in Law, Lois Oswald of Dryden, NY, Sister and Brother in Law Mary and Ray Decker of Ann Arbor, MI ; and many nieces and nephews around the world. Sammie will forever be in our Hearts! A memorial celebration will be in the auditorium at Freedom Village April, 14th at 2PM.
