Obituary

Mrs. Ruth E. Bosscher, age 97, passed away Friday morning, September 30, 2016. She was pre-deceased in death by her husband of 56 years, James E. Bosscher, her sisters Dorothy Harrod, Mildred Smith, Mary Louise Nienhuis, and her brother, Robert Jenkins. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Kurt of Haslett, Mi. and two sons, James (Patricia) Bosscher of Northville, Mi. and Richard (Mary Kay Weber) Bosscher of Richmond, Mi., 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Ruth was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota and has lived in Lansing, Battle Creek, and Grand Rapids, Michigan. For the past 12 years, Ruth has lived at Porter Hills Village in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Ruth met her husband, Jim, while they were both working at White Haines Optical Company. They loved to travel internationally and took many trips to Europe, the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Alaska and traveled extensively throughout North America. They also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their cottage in Holland, Michigan. For 20 years they spent their winters in Naples, Florida where they developed an additional network of close friends. They were both very active members of Hope Reformed Church and Ruth served in a variety of volunteer and philanthropic activities in the Grand Rapids area. Ruth was an avid bridge player and enjoyed games and sports of all types. She was a strong supporter of local sports teams and especially enjoyed rooting for Michigan State and the Detroit Tigers. A memorial service to celebrate Ruth's life will take place at Porter Hills Village at a date yet to be finalized. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent in Ruth's honor to the Porter Hills Benevolent Fund.
