Ronald Jay Vlietstra of Cascade Township, born February 6th 1950, passed away at age 66 on September 29th 2016. He fought his cancer to the end surrounded by his loving family. He is preceded in death by his parents Andy & Marian, sisters Natalie (Nan) & Amy, and brother Daniel. At 18, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served for 6 years in the Vietnam War. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in northern Michigan, riding on the surrounding trails, and helping the DNR with trail maitenance. Anyone who needed a hand Ron was there for and he became quick friends with each person he met. He was fond of carrying orange circus peanuts in his truck and treating friends, especially his beloved grandchildren. He loved machinery and trucks so much that he spent 35 years driving semi's. And recently, although retired, worked at State Spring doing maintenance and of course, driving. Ron will be remembered by his wife Karen of 41 years; brothers Paul, Ken & Norman; sisters Carol, Kim, Janet & Cindy; his children Tim & Michelle Vlietstra and Kevin & Lauren Vlietstra. And he was so proud to be grandpa to Darren, Kyle and "support team"Alistair. Visitation will be held at Community of Christ, 8185 68th st SE, Alto, MI Thursday October 6th and Friday October 7th from 5pm-8pm each day. For those who wish to give, the family will accept flowers an hour before visitation each day.
