In Loving Memory of Ronald Lorne Thomas
(1941 - 2025)
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald Lorne Thomas on April 24, 2025, at age 83. Husband, brother, son, father, Popo, and Rockin' Ronnie to some. Ron's vibrant spirit, generosity, and unwavering love enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Canada, of Irish descent. He wore his roots like a badge of honor – a claddagh ring, a fondness for a well poured pint, and an Irish tune under a soft rain. An eternal ember of Irish pride.
Ron was the undeniable heart of every gathering—a masterful storyteller whose animated voice and hearty laughter transformed ordinary moments into cherished memories especially evident during the family reunions he hosted at his beloved cottage in Bitely. There, his skilled hands built countless projects for everyone's enjoyment, creating a place for his family to gather for generations.
A passionate Detroit Lions fan who never lost hope for a Super Bowl victory, Ron channeled his love of sports into coaching youth baseball and football teams to remarkable success. His mechanical genius was legendary—there wasn't an engine, machine, or gadget he couldn't fix.
What defined Ron most was his steadfast presence in the lives of those he loved. Whether cheering from the sidelines at his family's sporting events or creating special moments during family dinners, his devotion was unwavering. He approached life with fearless enthusiasm and an open heart, leaving a lasting impression on his family and friends.
Ron's legacy lives on in the stories we tell, the laughter we share and the love we give to one another. While his physical presence will be profoundly missed, his spirit will continue to echo through every memory, every repaired engine, every family laugh and every Lions game. He lived with heart, humor and integrity and for that we are eternally grateful.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Carol; his children Ronald Lorne Thomas Jr., (Kim) Marcee Thomas Theisen, (Chris) Kelly Joseph, Patrick Thomas (Kathy), and Jennifer Thomas Grimm (Larry); twelve grandchildren: Tyler Thomas, Kaylee Laudick, Riley Thomas, Courtney Laudick, Spencer Thomas, Jack Grimm, Olivia Thomas, Charlie Grimm, Evelyn Grimm, Alex Thomas, Mitchell Thomas, and Colin Thomas; his siblings Ralph Thomas, Mary Rayman, and Victor Thomas; and his faithful dog Max.
A celebration of Ron's remarkable life will be held at the family cottage on Saturday July 19th, 2025, at 1:00 PM… until the stars twinkle above us. 10055 Lake Drive, Bitely Michigan. Until then, we hold his memory close. Popo – the man, the myth, the legend.
