Obituary

Ronald Leslie Bickel, a beacon of love, kindness, and generosity, concluded his earthly journey on December 9, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and dedication that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Born on January 27, 1939, in Seven Kings, England, Ronald & his mother Vera Richards immigrated to the USA in 1946. Ronald carried with him the charm and resilience that would define his life's narrative.

Ronald's early commitment to service was evident through his honorable tenure in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. Following his military service, he channeled his precision and attention to detail into a fulfilling career as a Cartographer at Metro Graphic Arts, where he meticulously crafted street maps that guided countless individuals on their journeys.

Throughout his lifetime, Ronald's Christian faith was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding him through moments of joy and challenge alike, and inspiring those around him to live with grace and compassion.

He shared 64 beautiful years with his beloved wife, Gail Lillian Davey, building a family and a home filled with unwavering love and support. Together, they were the proud parents of Wayne (Gretchen) Bickel, Doug (Kristen) Bickel, and Scott (Christina) Bickel, who will carry forward the principles of integrity and kindness instilled in them by their father.

Ronald's joy multiplied with the arrival of his granddaughters, Sara (Garrett) Bickel, Emily Bickel, and Sydney Bickel, and his great-grandson, Charlie, each one holding a special place in his heart and memories. Ronald's role as a grandfather was characterized by his bottomless generosity and love, leaving a lasting impact on their lives.

Those who had the privilege of knowing Ronald will remember him as a man who gave freely of himself and cherished the simple pleasures in life. His warm smile, his gentle demeanor, and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones stand as a testament to the man he was.

Ronald Leslie Bickel's story is not one of an end but a tale that continues through the lives of those he loved, the maps he created, and the countless moments of kindness he scattered like seeds in the wind. His was a life well-lived, and his spirit will continue to guide us, just as the maps he crafted so diligently guided many on their chosen paths. As we bid farewell to Ronald, we do so with the knowledge that his legacy will forever be etched in our hearts and the world he so beautifully mapped out for us.
