Obituary

Roger Otto Schrock, age 91, recently of Fennville, passed away peacefully at his home at Golden Orchards Assisted Living on Monday March 2, 2026 in the glow of a glorious late winter sunset.

Roger was born in Grand Rapids on March 14, 1934 to Vera (Bearss) Schrock and Otto Schrock. He attended Wyoming Public Schools where he met his high school sweetheart, Beverly (Andrews) Schrock. Roger also attended Grand Rapids Junior College where he played the clarinet in the concert band. His studies were interrupted when ‘Rog and Bev’ eloped on September 26, 1953. They spent the next 62 years in the West Michigan area, raising a family of five children in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Jenison, Hudsonville, and finally Allendale where they built their dream cabin and lived for 35 years. Roger was a tireless worker for General Motors in machine set up and repair at Grand Rapids area plants. He was a proud member of the United Auto Workers and retired from GM after 30 years. He then began a second career working in construction well into his 70’s with his sons. It wasn’t long before Roger took on a new role as caregiver for the love of his life until she passed in 2016. At that point he moved to the Onekama area where he and Bev had spent many happy summers. He bought a small home there and endeared himself to the Onekama community until a stroke necessitated a move to assisted living in Fennville.

Roger enjoyed his bowling nights with sons and friends, and all things outdoors, sailing his O’Day ‘The Jolly Roger’, fishing, and hunting, especially with son-in-law Joe. While living in the Hudsonville area, he and family members attended the Hudsonville Congregational United Church of Christ. He served on the building committee organizing various remodeling projects and getting hands-on by crafting the cross that still graces the west wall of the sanctuary.

In addition to his wife Beverly, Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother Terry (Pat) Schrock.

He is survived by his children, sons Mark (Martha Wickett) Schrock of Fennville, Kevin (Debbie) Schrock of Lamont, and Rob (Linda) Schrock of Baldwin; daughters, Kimberly (Joe) Perrin of Onekama, and Tammy Schrock of Gobles. Roger was proud of his eleven grandchildren: Jasen, Jacob, Rebecca, Rachel, Andrew, Christopher, Ashley, Jewelle, Caitlin, Kelsea, Cassie, and their spouses and significant others. He loved his seventeen great-grandchildren: Sabrina, Austin, Ethan, Carmen, Hunter, Isaac, Vincent, Isadora, Rylenn, Xavier, Arianna, Leilia, Lark, Sam, Blake, Ivy, and Ellie. Roger is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Holland and the amazing caregivers at Golden Orchards Assisted Living in Fennville for their love and support. According to Roger’s wishes he will be cremated, with a Celebration of Life to be held April 25, 2026 at Camp Tosebo for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to Hospice of Holland at https://hollandhospice.app.neoncrm.com/forms/give
