Obituary

Roger Wilson Bradley, age 97, departed this world for his Eternal Home on October 9, 2025 with family by his side. Roger is survived and forever loved by his children John (Kristin) Bradley and Mark (Amy Bosch) Bradley, 3 grandchildren Mikaela, Olivia, and Milo Bradley, sisters-in-law Helen Bradley and Norma Rogers, niece Karen Beattie and many cousins. Roger was preceded in death by his wife Marian in 2017, and brothers Stuart and Norman Bradley.

Roger was born in 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan on the eve of the Great Depression and came of age as WWII ended. After graduating from the University of Michigan (Go Blue!), he worked as an electronic engineer for 35 years and held two patents. In 1960, Roger married the love of his life, Marian Readhead. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage together and raised their sons, John and Mark, in Wyandotte, MI. He was proud of his boys and delighted in the goings-on of his three grandchildren. After living in southeast Michigan for over 60 years,  Roger moved back to Grand Rapids in 2021 to be closer to family.

He valued his faith and family and found great meaning in being of service to others.

Roger and Marian were active members of their churches, including Bethel Baptist Church in Southgate. The two of them organized the Downriver CROP Walk for 15 years, raising funds for and awareness of food insecurity. Roger devoted time to young people as a Sunday School teacher and a Kiwanis leader of K-Kids and Builders Club at local schools. Roger was a dedicated husband to Marian. He steadfastly supported Marian in managing her difficult to control, insulin-dependent diabetes for decades. They were always together, especially after Roger retired: walks, meals, family visits, Elderhostels, church services, and musical performances. Their devotion to each other was apparent to everyone who knew them.

Roger had a mind for math and was curious about people; it was an experience to get the 'third degree' from him. He was fully present and genuinely interested in the stories of others. Roger was an avid organic gardener, genealogist, and was a recycler before recycling was cool. In his later years, he kept his mind sharp by starting each day solving Wordle and Kakuro puzzles and reading Heather Cox Richardson's blog.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 9 at 2 p.m. at Covenant Living of the Great Lakes, 2510 Lake Michigan Drive NW, Grand Rapids 49504 with Reverend Bruce Haight officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the CROP Hunger Walk or a charity of your choice. (  https://events.crophungerwalk.org/crophungerwalk  )
