Robert W. (Bill, Bob, R.W.) Sanders passed on February 21, 2018, after a courageous and long fight with cancer. Born on November 13, 1942 in Detroit, MI to Robert and Lillian (Mathey) Sanders, the family moved to Mancelona in 1948 where they owned and operated the Club 131 for 25 years. Bill graduated from Mancelona High School in 1961, then attended Michigan State University and Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City. He is survived by three children: Anthony R. Sanders of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jill Ann Sanders of Mancelona and Deana M. Bushard of Greenville; his grandson Drake Skowronski of Gaylord, longtime friend and companion Darlene Sexton of Bellaire and Estero, FL, his sister Laura McMillin and brother-in-law Mark McMillin of Otsego, MI; and three nieces and one nephew, all living in Michigan. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and the mother of his children, Judith K. Sanders. Bill was a high school football official for 45 years and retired from the Michigan Department of Corrections after 25 years of service. Bill was also a Navy veteran, having served on both coasts and overseas.
