Obituary

Robert Leslie Robson went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 7, 2023 after a courageous battle against Leukemia.

He was preceded in death by; His parents: Walter and Elsie (Hammond) Robson; Sisters, Margaret Alan, Patricia (Ed) DeRidder, Martha VerWyse and Susan (Ron) Zuidema. Brother in- law: William "Bill" Kooistra.

He was survived by; Sister: Dianne Kooistra; Children: Rebecca (Michael) Hansma, Kelly (Brett) Veenstra; Grandchildren: Amanda and Mikayla Hansma, Kyle and Nathan Veenstra; Loyal pups: Keeva and Jerzey Veenstra; Special nephew: Dennis (Peggy) DeRidder; Special friends: Stacey Thelen and Nicole Gault. Including many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Bob graduated from Lee High School in Wyoming, MI in June 1959.  After graduation, he proudly served as a sonarman in the United States Navy from 1960-1964. He worked as a lineman for Michigan Bell for 44 years before his retirement.  As a man of faith, he was extremely active in his church (Gethsemane Lutheran, Wyoming, MI) where he attended for almost 50 years and served as a council member, youth leader, choir member, and would fill in for Pastor Johnson or Pastor Welker for Sunday services if necessary.  As a devoted family man, he enjoyed being dad to his daughters and poppa to his grandchildren.  Bob volunteered with the Rogers High School Band Boosters from 1989-1995 and was Booster President for some time.  He loved to play Santa Claus for music events and at the Applebee's in Wyoming, MI, or when ever anyone needed a Santa for a party or event, he would step in, no charge.

Bob will forever be remembered for his robust laughter, usually followed by one of his many, many jokes, such as "Why were the elephant's toe nails painted red?  Because he was hiding in a cherry tree." He could most often be found at one of his many hangouts: The Choo Choo, Applebee's or Texas Roadhouse.

Bob wanted everyone whose lives he touched to know that he loved them as brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters.  He was a man who loved unconditionally and would help a person in need when he saw his fellow man/woman struggling.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bob's name to one of the following organizations, or to an organization of your choosing: Hands of Hope - The Foundation of the Cancer and Hematology Centers at the Richard J. Lacks Cancer center in Grand Rapids, MI.
