Obituary

Robert “Bobby” Lee Galloway, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Allegan on May 7, 2026, after a long battle with illness.

He was the youngest of four children born to Fred and Francis Irene (Munn) Galloway on April 28, 1950, in Plainwell, Michigan.

Bobby was a hard worker who truly enjoyed life. He was full of love and laughter. As a teenager, he would drive the farm tractor into town to plow snow from driveways — sometimes for money, but often simply to help others. In later years, he upgraded to a truck, turning snowplowing into a business while still lending a hand whenever someone was in need. He had a caring soul and a giving heart.

During the early years of his career, Bobby worked at several factories. In 1991, he found the work he loved most when he began building high-tensile fencing through Allegan Co-op. That opportunity led him to start his own business, Bob’s Fence. Over time, he expanded into all types of fencing projects. Bobby took great pride in his work and was known for his attention to detail and dedication to making his customers happy.

Bobby also took his second job very seriously and loved every minute of it. He served as head starter at Crystal Raceway, Kalamazoo Speedway, Berlin Raceway, Hartford Speedway, and Galesburg Speedway. At one time, he even threw flags over the Martin 131 Oval track — though he would proudly remind everyone, “Flagmen work on the roads!” Racing ran deep in his family, and at times his brother and nephew served as his assistant starters. Over the years, he had the opportunity to meet and work with NASCAR drivers including Dale Earnhardt Sr., Bill Elliott, Kyle Petty, Morgan Shepherd, and many others. Outside of racing, Bob also spent many years delivering propane to vendors at the Allegan County Fair, where he became a familiar and dependable face to many. In more recent years, he worked the track during harness racing. No matter where life took him, Bob built lasting friendships, and many of those friends became like family.

For many years, Bobby enjoyed trips up north with family to his brother’s cabin for hunting, relaxation, and maybe a few beers. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, and keeping a beautiful yard while he was able. One of his greatest joys was spending time in his backyard pool with nieces, nephews, family, neighbors, and friends — usually with a Busch Light or two nearby.

In 1989, Bobby married the love of his life, Teresa Ann Jones. Together they shared 37 wonderful years filled with love and memories. They were always by each other’s side, doing nearly everything together — perhaps “too much,” some would say — but Bobby wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. Together they golfed, bowled, worked at local racetracks, visited NASCAR tracks, and spent many weeks in Florida on Pine Island with his sister and brother-in-law. They also enjoyed many trips with Teresa’s family.

Bobby was a devoted husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone he met. He held a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and loved teasing them whenever he had the chance. It was often said, “If you don’t want the truth, don’t ask Bob for his opinion,” because he never sugar-coated anything. One niece would add, “ sometimes you didn’t even have to ask — he would tell you anyway.”

Known as the neighborhood watch, Bobby always knew when neighbors came and went. A few years ago, when golf carts became legal to drive in the city of Allegan, Bob made sure to get one. On beautiful days, he could often be found cruising the neighborhood, visiting neighbors, chatting with street workers, and finding out the latest news around town. He was a very social person, and most mornings you could find him at the local restaurant having coffee with “the guys” — his buds.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife and caregiver, Teresa; his siblings, George (Joyce) Galloway of Gobles, Sue Lovett of Otsego, and Fred (Deb) Galloway of Belding; his brother-in-law, Tim Curry; and sisters-in-law Georgia (Tim) Meade and Kelly Germain, all of Allegan.

He is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and countless special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, George and Gloria Jones; sister-in-law Delores Galloway; brother-in-law John Lovett; great-niece Rebecca Galloway; sister-in-law Judy Curry; and foster brother Bob Hare.

Honoring Bobby’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Rowe Cemetery on 42nd Street in Cheshire Township, between 110th Avenue and 112th Avenue.

Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held in the lower level of the Griswold Auditorium, 401 Hubbard Street, Allegan.
