Robert Scott Croly, known to some as Bob or Bobby, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Savior at the age of 83 on Monday, October 24, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family. Robert was born on June 7th, 1939, to Ernest and Virginia (Kirtland) Croly in Birmingham, Michigan.

Robert graduated from Birmingham High School with the class of 1957. He then became a registered architect in the Grand Rapids area, for both residential and commercial developments. A highlight of his career was being one of the lead architects for the construction of the Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids, completed in 1996.

Throughout his life and especially after retirement, Robert thoroughly enjoyed woodworking, sailing, golfing, and downhill skiing. He made sure all five of his children were on skis at a young age. Robert also enjoyed playing and watching sports on television. As a young boy, he often attended Detroit Tigers baseball games with family. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions, and Pistons; he rarely missed a game.

He is survived by his sister Bonnie Howard, daughter Michele Chesley, son Todd (Wendy) Croly, son Scott Croly, and their mother Milly Croly; son Chris (Kate) Croly, and daughter Taylor (Kevin) Vann and their mother Caroline Croly-Griffiths; uncle Ronald (Brenda) Vanderbout; grandchildren Tyler (Brittany) Chesley, Trace Croly, Brooke and Brayden Croly, Henry and Emily Croly, Ethan, Elise and Emdyn Vann; as well as great-grandsons James and Lukas Chesley.

There will be a memorial and celebration of life in the summer of 2023 with family and friends in the Suttons Bay/Traverse City area. Details to follow. Service Details.
