June 27, 2014 Robert Henry Richard Carley, age 94, of Hudsonville, formerly of Holland, MI departed this life for his heavenly home on June 27, 2014. He was born on August 9, 1919 to Henry and Caroline Carley of Blue Island, IL, then spent most of his life in Holland. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia of 47 years in 2012. He is survived and will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Susan and Dennis Jr. Hopkins and granddaughter, Carley Hopkins, all of Byron Center, grandson, Nick and Mandy Hopkins and great-granddaughters, Jordyn and Aubree, all of Wyoming, brother-in-law, Terry and Mona Sharp of Muskegon. He attended Hope College then worked alongside his father in the theater business; known as Carley Amusement for the Holland Knickerbocker and Park Theaters as well as the Starlight Drive In. He then joined the Army in 1944 and served as Assistant Team Chief Intelligence in WWII and was deployed to Ardennes Rheinland Central Europe. Upon his return he continued to work in the theater business and built and operated a Laundromat, later he sold life insurance and real estate in the Holland area, before he retired. He was a very complimentary person who always has something divine to say to you when you would be greeted by him; he loved to tell you stories about his past and all the things he would read about. His greatest passions were his wife and family, traveling, movies, hunting, guns, reading and researching anything, animals, ice cream & Oreo cookies. Many thanks for such wonderful care to Faith Hospice. Some special people throughout his life were Louise & John Siedenfuss, Dave & Lori Vandermolen, Pam & John Mapes, Westenbroek and Veltkamp families, a special friend of the family, Kara Barber and other family & friends for all their support over all the years. Any charitable contributions can be made to The American Heart Association. A private family memorial will be held.
