IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Lee
Atkins
March 29, 1934 – September 11, 2018
Robert "Bob" Lee Atkins, 84, of Plainwell, Michigan, passed away after a long battle with Dementia, Tuesday, September 11th, 2018 at his home. Bob was born on March 29th, 1934, in Walled Lake, Michigan to Albert and Bernice (Johnson) Atkins. He graduated from Walled Lake High School in 1953. Served in the United State Army from 1956 to 1958. On June 12, 1964, he married the former Yoko Sugihara. Bob was employed by Walter C. Wylie & Co. for over 30 years. He was Marquette Charter Township Treasurer and Trustee for over 30 years, also. He was an active member of Lions Club International. As a Lion, he served many years on the board of the Michigan/Midwest Eye Bank and Transplantation Center. Bob is survived by his wife, Yoko Atkins, his two sons, Robert Atkins and his wife Beth of Kalamazoo, MI, Charles Atkins and his wife Jennifer of Cheboygan, MI, and 4 grandchildren, Jacob Atkins, Wyatt Atkins, Matthew Atkins, Clare Atkins, his brother, Charles Atkins of Woodstock, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Bernice Atkins, his brother, Albert Atkins, his sister, Elizabeth Thomas, his nephew Marty Halsema, and his grandchild, Anthony Robert Atkins. Those who knew Bob know he loved to tell a story. We don't think anyone that met him did not come away with a smile. He enjoyed chatting with everyone and was happiest when he was talking, okay bragging, about family. He will be missed by everyone but we all take comfort in the fact that he is no longer suffering from Dementia and is happy once again watching over everyone he loves. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simply Cremations in Grand Rapids, Michigan. As an Army veteran there will be a short military service at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI at a future date.
