IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Alan
Root
September 3, 1956 – April 23, 2016
Richard Alan Root of Wyoming, MI passed away after a courageous battle with ALS and cancer. Born in Sturgis, MI, his passion in life was to help people. He enjoyed sharing his quick wit and delightful sense of humor with friends and family, though in public he was often quiet and introspective. Richard is survived by the love of his life Jean Larko-Root. They shared 17 years together learning about life, love and faith. He cherished every moment he spent with his children Sarah (Michael) Kozal, Rachel Root, Joshua Root and Elizabeth Root. Grandchildren Reagan and Oliver Kozal opened a place in his heart and soul uniquely theirs. Every moment he spent with them was deeply fulfilling. His mother Velma Root was his greatest source of love, strength, support and encouragement through every stage of his life. Step Mother Patricia Boggs, brother Dan (Sherry) Root, held a special place in his heart as did Patricia Root and Joanne Root with whom he was previously married and shared children. One of the great joys during the last few years of his life was his Tuesday night men's group at Kentwood Community Church-Wyoming campus. They offered help, love and support in ways words could not adequately express. He had a life long fascination with history, especially regarding the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln. He had a delightful affection for animals of all kinds. He was especially blessed in his later years by his dogs Cricket and Shiloh who provided comfort, companionship and love as only loyal pets can give. He will be remembered lovingly and greatly missed by friends and family. His gentleness, perseverance, strong faith and transparency grew exponentially through the last few years of his life. Though his body was deteriorating, his inner strength grew and he experienced freedom as never before in his life. Those of us who remain cherish the example of transformation he lived. His favorite Bible verse was Jeremiah 29:11-13 I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at Kentwood Community Church-Kentwood Campus, 1200 60th SE, Kentwood, MI, Ground Zero, on April 30 at 2pm. Following the service, the family will be available to share treasured memories of Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to help cover final expenses. Donations for the family can be routed to: Jean Larko-Root 2180 44th SE Suite 106 Kentwood, MI 49509 If you prefer, donations may also be made to Faith Hospice-Trillium Woods in Richard's name. They provided such loving care for all of us!
