January 19, 2015 Service: January 24, 2015 Richard 'Dick' Sayles Richter passed away on January 19, 2015 at his home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on August 2, 1935 to N. Sayles and Josephine Richter in Traverse City, Michigan, Dick graduated from Traverse City High School in 1953, where he was a member of the football, basketball and tennis teams. On August 3, 1957 Dick married Audrey O'Brien in Traverse City, together they had three children Paul (Melissa) Richter, Peggy (Alan) Lipp and Kurt (Dawn) Richter. He attended Western Michigan University and Northwestern Michigan College, and embarked on a forty year career in television broadcasting. Beginning at WPBN-TV in Traverse City, after a short stent at WBOY-TV, Clarksburg, West Virginia he moved on to WOOD TV 8 in Grand Rapids working as a director-producer for thirty seven years, retiring in 1997. A follower of all sports Dick especially liked watching the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, college football and hockey. What he enjoyed most was attending his grandchildren's musical, theatrical and athletic events with his wife Audrey. Dick is survived by his wife, Audrey, three children, and ten grandchildren; Emma (Brandon) Wohlschlegel , Hannah (Tyler) Holmes, Clara Richter, Jordan Lipp, Kevin Lipp, Alison Lipp, Brandon Richter, Courtney Richter, Stacey (Ethan) Brace and Alexandria Richter as well as his sisters Helen (Fred) Altman and Mary (Joe) Scibana, and a brother Fritz (Sharon) Richter. Visitation will be held at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave.SE, Kentwood from 4 PM to 7 PM on Friday, January 23. A memorial service will be at 11 AM Saturday, January 24 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2275 Diamond NE, Grand Rapids, visitation will be one hour prior, beginning at 10 AM.
